CONTRECOEUR, QUEBEC AND BRAMPTON, ONTARIO, October 13, 2020 – ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada (“ArcelorMittal”) and Triple M Metal (“Triple M”), two of the largest players in Canada’s metal recycling industry, announce that they are joining forces to offer more choice and services to scrap metal consumers and suppliers. The two companies are today creating a joint venture called Integrated Metal Recycling Inc. (“Integrated”), which will combine many of the recycling activities of the two partners in Quebec.

With this new alliance, recyclers will now have access to more outlets for their scrap metal. Whether to supply ArcelorMittal’s steel mills, Triple M’s aluminum customers or other users of recycled metals, Integrated’s scrap metal needs will be constant and diversified. The joint venture will provide recyclers with increased opportunities to sell their scrap metal on an ongoing basis and build lasting business relationships with a trusted partner. Integrated will also continue to process and add value to nonferrous metals as part of its service offering.

At ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada, the four Legault Métal sites (Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec) acquired by ArcelorMittal in 2019 will now be part of Integrated. At Triple M Metal, the Metrobec sites located in Saint-Hubert (Longueuil), Quebec, will also be under the Integrated structure. “In addition to the types of scrap metal specific to steel production that we need, the joint venture will now allow us to purchase a wider range of scrap grades that can also be processed at other Integrated Metal Recycling yards,” said François Perras, President and CEO of ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada. “For recyclers, we are creating a new one-stop shop for their scrap metal, which will make management easier for both of us.”

“ArcelorMittal and Triple M have been working together for decades, so this joint venture was a natural fit for both organizations,” adds Oscar Moniz, President of Triple M Metal. “Each of us has established a solid reputation in the recycling industry over time. By pooling our experience and expertise, we offer the industry a strong alternative that will provide choice, service and prices that meet expectations of our existing and future clients.”

In addition to allowing local recyclers to sell their scrap metal to an established local player, Integrated Metal Recycling is proud to contribute to the circular economy by enabling the recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals that find new life in various industrial uses right here in Canada.

Take Time To Rediscover Recycling

  |   By  |  0 Comments

This Earth Day, an Opportunity to Rediscover Recycling

April 22 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. In honor of our planet and the initiatives to minimize the world’s carbon footprint, we invite you to understand how recyclable materials play a part in fighting the pandemic crisis. We invite you to Rediscover Recycling, it’s essential.

Rediscover Recycling – It’s Essential

On this 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we are calling attention to the planet we live on and the importance of recycling efforts that reduce pollution and in turn, allow for natural resources to be better conserved.

Recycling reduces material placed into landfill and entering our oceans. Recycling also reduces greenhouse gasses that enter the atmosphere. Each one of us can lead by example, and through our actions bring about meaningful change that begins in our homes and extends to our towns, cities, forests and oceans.

Recycling is helping in the fight against COVID-19. That’s because recycled metal, paper, plastics and other commodity‐grade materials feed critical manufacturing operations. Those in turn are producing the rebar, wiring, tubing, transportation, packaging and other key materials needed for everything from construction of hospitals to the manufacture of new hospital beds, ventilators, toilet paper and other essential supplies. Recycling is both essential to the health of the planet – and to the health of individuals.

Recycling is essential to so many positive outcomes, and it depends on all of us doing our part not only on Earth Day, but every day of the year.

Recycling works better when we all do it correctly.

• Rinse plastics when recycling, try not to leave any food or residue in the containers
• Paper products should be free of plastic materials such as tape
• Some materials are not recyclable so not including them in the bins saves time and energy. Check with your local municipality to determine what materials are acceptable for recycling.
• Follow your local health guidelines to ensure your safety during the COVID-19 crisis but consider participating in a local cleanup effort.

Recycling Supply Chain Essential to Vital Industries

Essential

Dear Valued Customers,

On March 23, 2020, the province of Ontario published a listing of businesses which the province deems to be “essential businesses”. The full listing may be found here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/list-essential-workplaces

Accordingly, we are taking the position that our business is considered essential and we will, until further notice, continue to operate and to provide you with a high level of customer service in as safe and efficient manner as is possible.

The Covid-19 situation continues to evolve rapidly and the safety of our workers, their families and our communities is of paramount importance to us at Triple M Metal and all involved. We are mindful of the increased risk during this uncertain time and continue to respond to our government’s increased warnings about protection for individuals and the community.

Limiting the spread of the virus is critical as we perform our responsibility to support the safety of our country. All employees have been directed to restrict movements and interactions to essential, work related activities. We are committed to continuing to taking appropriate measures, in accordance with Health Canada’s recommendations, to minimize this risk including, but not limited to:

  • Continuing education of employees on best practices suggested by the WHO (World Health Organization), Health Canada and Telehealth Ontario and the implementation of safe guards to keep people healthy and safe.
  • Reducing and, where possible, eliminating instances where employees need to work within six feet of each other. Typically, our equipment is large enough to have an operator on the “entry” and “exit” end, separated by a significant distance of much greater than six feet. Other single-operator equipment is spaced where operators are again not within six feet of each other.
  • Declaring it a presumption that all employees whose work can be done remotely will do so.
  • Staggering start/stop times to provide better isolation between crews.
  • Minimized hours of operation, Sunday now closed.
  • Suspending all in-person meetings and replacing these with alternatives such as teleconferencing or use of Microsoft Teams.
  • Severely limiting vendor access, other than those vendors that are absolutely critical to continued operations.
  • Restricting access and interaction with truck drivers for deliveries and shipments.
  • Severely limiting the interfacing between truck drivers and security and shipping departments.
  • Educating employees and, pursuant to Health Canada’s guidelines, directing them to stay home if they are exhibiting symptoms.
  • Enhancing janitorial services including frequency with a focus on disinfecting touch surfaces and periodic deep cleaning.
  • A daily HR call-in for all front line HR leaders communicating the latest information concerning our employees and latest developments concerning the Virus.

We continue to explore all possible solutions for safety while maintaining crucial materials & supplies to our valued customers.

Thank you for your concern and support, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

With great appreciation,

Oscar Moniz

Matalco Breaks Ground on Greenfield Facility in Wisconsin

Matalco Groundbreaking

Officials from The Giampaolo Group and Matalco Inc. gathered in Wisconsin this past October to break ground on Matalco’s latest facility. Matalco, Triple M Metal’s sister company, is a leader in the production of remelt, extrusion-grade aluminum billet, forging stock and rolling ingot slab. The new facility will be the result of an $80 million investment to construct an 110,000 square foot manufacturing plant, equipped with the latest advanced technology to service both existing and prospective customers. At full production capacity, the Wisconsin Rapids facility will employ 80 permanent, full-time personnel with annual production in excess of 230 million pounds of high-quality aluminum billet.

“Securing this investment for the City of Wisconsin Rapids involved several economic development partners, including state and local officials.” said Mayor Zachary Vruwink. “This was a big win for Wood County proving that Wisconsin Rapids’ economy is strengthening and job opportunities are growing.”

The new facility is scheduled to be ready by mid-2020. “This investment firmly demonstrates our continued and unwavering commitment to serve both our customers and prospective clients and expand our market share. After a lengthy selection process, we decided on Wisconsin Rapids as the site of our new plant because of its location relative to our market, its exceptional workforce, local investments in quality of life, and the comprehensive incentive package and assistance provided from both the state and local levels.” said Tom Horter, President, Matalco Inc.
